The Poopy Puppy, sure to become an all-time classic. You light the fuse and, as the name implies, the puppy does his business. This easily won Funniest Firework. (JON BODELL / Insider staff)

There’ a whole wall of smaller yet totally fun – and funny – fireworks. (JON BODELL / Insider staff)

Here are some high-end sparklers. They're bigger, burn longer and have more vivid colors than the smaller, more basic ones. (JON BODELL / Insider staff)

Here's a big stack of cakes. These aren't tasty, but they pack dozens of shots per pack, so they're good for adding volume (not the sound kind of volume) to any show. Since these can hold up to hundreds of shots, these win Most Shots. (JON BODELL / Insider staff)

Above: These Pop Pop packs aren’t what you think – these bad boys are snappers for adults. Throw one on the ground and the bang is as loud as a firecracker (which are illegal in New Hampshire). We’ll call these the Best Bang for Your Buck ($3).

This jumbo reloadable mortar pack features six tubes and 60 shells, all with different effects. It's aptly called THIS IS AMERICA. Take that, Sparta. (JON BODELL / Insider staff)

This whole middle shelf is one giant variety pack. The box it came in was too big to fit in the store, so all the pieces are displayed on a shelf. This wins the prize for Biggest Pack. (JON BODELL / Insider staff)

These are reloadable mortars. These bad boys launch shells way up into the air and can provide bigger bangs than most other fireworks. These take the title of Biggest Bang. (JON BODELL / Insider staff)

These packs are a good value at $39. You get a nice mix of assorted aerial shells and other smaller fireworks. (JON BODELL / Insider staff)

Ah, sparklers. As American as apple pie. There are plenty of varieties to choose from at Champny's. These qualify as Kids' Favorite -- but remember, these are for adults to use for the enjoyment of kids. Don't let a child hold one of these things that burn between 1,200 and 1,400 degrees. Champny's has a TV with a surround sound system used for showing customers what certain fireworks do and sound like. Saves you the trouble of lighting them in the store and probably blowing the whole place up. (JON BODELL / Insider staff)

When it’s right around the Fourth of July, there’s one thing on everybody’s mind: fireworks.

Since we live in the Live Free or Die state, we’re lucky enough to be able to buy our own fireworks and put on our own shows.

One place to get them is Champny’s Fireworks in Bow. It’s a family business that’s been a fixture in town for nearly 20 years, and it’s home to all the fireworks anyone could ask for.

We stopped in last week to see what we could find. We wanted to try to come up with some categories to make it easier for you.

Since there are so many different kinds of fireworks with so many different effects, designed for many different purposes, setting boundaries with categories seemed to be the most logical thing to do.

We looked for fireworks that best fit the following categories: Biggest Bang, Most Shots, Funniest Firework, Biggest Variety Pack, Kids’ Favorite and Best Bang for your Buck.

Keep in mind, the Kids’ Favorite category doesn’t mean the best fireworks to let kids play with – in fact, young kids should never play with any kinds of fireworks (but you knew that).

Deborah Colby, owner of Champny’s, described fireworks in that category as ones “that parents do for kids’ enjoyment.” So in other words, leave the lighting to the adults and the oohing an ahhing to the kids (though adults can ooh and ahh, too).

There’s really everything you could imagine – and plenty you couldn’t – at this place, so have a look.
