Live Music on the Lawn returns to the library

We talk a lot about live music in these pages, but it usually requires spending a night in a local bar of coffee shop.

It’s not often that we get to talk about not just one but three big musical performances going down at Concord Public Library. But that’s exactly what we’re about to do.

It’s called the Live Music on the Lawn series, and it is exactly what it sounds like.

This is the second year of the series, which features a different musical act each month, performing a set on the closed-to-traffic Prince Street, next to the library.

“We’re very excited about it,” said Robbin Bailey, a reference librarian at CPL.

It’s easy to see why everyone is so excited.

With Prince Street closed, the whole thing takes on a festival, block-party kind of atmosphere.

“Bring your kids, your dogs, bring your own snacks,” Bailey said.

It’s really a laid back kind of event. You just show up, find a space on the library’s lawn and sit back and relax.

If you don’t choose to bring your own snacks (or if you do but they’re just not enough), you can buy some grub from Poison Pete, Constantly Pizza and/or (but we know it’s going to end up being an and) Miss Polly’s Traveling Treats, an ice cream and novelty dealer.

The series, which is sponsored by the Concord Public Library Foundation, is pretty reliant on weather cooperation, though the shows will all go on rain or shine – as was the case last year, when only one of four booked acts got to play outside.

If it starts to pour, the show will be taken inside to the auditorium, and the food vendors are even prepared to deal with bad weather – which of course there won’t be any of this year, but it never hurts to be prepared.

This year features three shows: June 29, July 20 and Aug. 17. Those are all Wednesdays, and the shows begin at 6 p.m.

All of the bands are from New Hampshire, and some are even from Concord.

The first performance, which is next Wednesday, will feature People Skills, a Seacoast band taking the state by storm. Laid to Dust headlines the July show, and local faves Feisty Pants cap off the series in August.
