If you’re a strawberry fan, this is the best time of year to be one.
And while it’s fun to go and pick your own (like we did), we’ve got a way for you to enjoy the delicious fruit without doing all the hard work.
The Bow Mills United Methodist Church will hold its eighth annual Strawberry Festival on Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
As you can probably guess, there will be lots of the delicious berries on hand. The day before, they pick about 150 pounds to be cut up for strawberry shortcake (which you can purchase at the event) and another 30-plus baskets on Saturday morning are collected to be sold as is.
But while strawberries are the star of the show, there’s going to be lots to do at Bow Mills. They don’t call it a festival for nothing.
There will be lots of demos, activities and musical entertainment throughout the day to go along with free food samples.
You can meet a variety of animals, like a llama, chickens, rabbits, therapy and agility dogs, and even get a lick from a cute puppy at the puppy kissing booth. It makes sense why they’ll have a Blessing of the Animals at 10:15 a.m.
Add in an obstacle course and board breaking, games, Irish Field Dancers, a balloon artist, face painting and crafts, there’s something for everyone.
Beginning at 10:30 a.m., the Bow Mills food tent will offer up grilled food and plenty of strawberry shortcake. Proceeds benefit Cross Town Kids Sports Program, which supports ongoing efforts to make sports participation accessible to immigrant and refugee children throughout the Concord area.
For more information, call 228-1154 or 224-0884. Admission is free and the festival will be held rain or shine.
