We know that it’s going to be tough to stay away from all that delicious and not-so-good-for-you food that is synonymous with Market Days.
And we can’t blame you. We’ll probably indulge a little ourselves. But if you live for the festival and spend every moment of the 36 hours it’s open roaming around Main Street looking for snacks, you probably won’t feel all that great about your eating choices come Sunday.
But there’s definitely something you can do about it and it has nothing to do with one of those cleanse diets. Instead, grab you favorite T-shirt and shorts, put on those running shoes and start stretching out the legs for the first annual Runner’s Alley Capital City Classic 10K.
For those of you who haven’t been sweating up the streets of Concord or your favorite local gym, the 6.2-mile distance might be a little much, but you won’t know until you try. And we know there are plenty of you out there that have pounding the pavement on a regular basis.
It’s the longest race in the Capital Area Race Series, and begins and ends at City Plaza. The race begins at 9 a.m. on Sunday, but race packets can be picked up at Runner’s Alley (142 N. Main St.) from noon to 6 p.m. on Saturday, as well as on race day from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. in front of the State House.
Proceeds from the road race will be donated to The Concord Coalition to End Homelessness and Intown Concord.
The Concord Food Co-op will host a pasta dinner Saturday night starting at 4:30 p.m. in its parking lot on South Main Street. All registered runners receive a free plate of pasta. Family and friends can receive a plate as well for only $10.
For more info, to register to run or sign up for the free dinner, visit runnersalley.com/ccc10k and facebook.com/capitalcityclassic10k.
There is also a need for volunteers, so contact Sean Gray at Runner’s Alley at sean@runnersalley.com for questions.
