Since it’s the Cappies, we had to check out a few of the winners

As you probably know by now, this is the Cappies Issue. The time of year when we celebrate the best the Capital region has to offer. There’s some pretty cool stuff in here that if you just passed right by, we urge you to go back and take a closer look.

Because after we did (on many occassions putting this whole thing together), we set out to visit a few of these winners to see if you got it right when it comes to the voting department. Voting the right way sure is an important thing.

There, of course, were a few things on the list that we just weren’t able to check out. We didn’t feel like getting arrested and being represented by a local law firm, so that was out. We aren’t in the market for a new house or office space, so we couldn’t take advantage of the real estate establishments, either.

It’s a little early for us to start our summer tanning regimen and it wasn’t the right time of year for our kids’ birthday parties.

But that doesn’t mean we didn’t spend a little time, walking around to see what kind of stuff we could find.

So we parked the car on North Main Street, armed with a camera, notebook (and pens) and a couple bucks in our wallet.

We’re all about knickknacks, so checking out Hilltop Consignment Gallery (voted tops in the consignment store category), was a must. We didn’t pull the trigger on any purchases, but we haven’t stopped thinking about that cow plate we saw. That just screams “I live in New Hampshire” and should be taking up real estate in our pod.

We had already eaten lunch, which was a good thing because with all those food categories, how could we have chosen the right place to eat?  But that doesn’t mean we weren’t in the mood for some sweets, which Granite State Candy took care of quite nicely.

How can you go wrong with the combination of milk chocolate, raspberry, peanut butter and caramel? The answer is you can’t.

Now with a full belly and our chocolate craving under control – at least for the time being – we wanted to take a load off and sit down for a little bit. It was a little early for live music or a performance, so the Capitol Center for the Arts was out. We made our way down the street to catch a little sports at The Draft. Have you seen those projection screens? Pretty sweet, huh?

Of course, we only had a limited amount of time because we were on the clock, so we couldn’t do everything we wanted.

But this whole process got us thinking: What other categories could we include in next year’s Cappie Awards?

This list has been around for a few years, and it’s about time to shake things up a bit. So we’re starting the process a little early – like a year ahead of time. You know, like Santa does it.

We want to hear what kinds of categories you’d like to see added for the 2017 edition, so we’ll keep a running list and see what we get. We already got a request for best tattoo artist and thought of a couple we’d like to see voted on next April.

But this is all about you. So if you’ve got some suggestions, we’re all ears. Send us an email at news@theconcordinsider.com and maybe, just maybe, you’ll see your idea next year.

Until then, this is your Cappies team signing off.
