The crew at N.H. Audubon is hearing rumors that spring is about to spring, which can only mean it’s time to get ready for the organization’s annual Birdathon/Bloomathon on Saturday.
Join a team and raise pledges, or gather a few friends to form your own team and set personal goals to tally birds and wildflowers, all to support N.H. Audubon’s programs and conservation efforts. Free and open to all, this day-long celebration of New Hampshire’s natural beauty helps naturalists collect data that enables them to better understand trends among plants and animals across the Granite State.
“New Hampshire’s landscape is about to be in full bloom with lovely wildflowers and colorful singing birds returning to their summer homes,” said Ruth Smith of N.H. Audubon and the coordinator for Birdathon/Bloomathon. “It is a perfect time to get out and enjoy these natural wonders, and at the same time do something to help protect them.”
By getting outside, searching for birds, flowers, or both, and soliciting pledges to support N.H. Audubon’s conservation efforts and programs, Birder-Bloomers (as they are affectionately known) make a measurable impact by reporting their findings and fundraising. Those who form teams can specify favorite programs or special initiatives that their contributions will benefit.
Getting involved is easy. There’s no registration fee, just an invitation to tell your community about your participation and offer to collect pledges from friends, co-workers, family members, Facebook connections, local businesses, or anyone else who loves New Hampshire’s wildlife. Anyone is welcome to form a team of two to six people, or join an existing team at a N.H. Audubon chapter or center.
