If you didn’t know, we’re not exactly the best artists out there. It’s hard enough for us to draw a tree, let alone carve a breathtaking scene in a woodblock, which we can only assume is made out of a tree. And if you head down to McGowan Fine Art sometime between now and May 27, you can see all kinds of prints made from the carved woodblocks of Matt Brown and his students. There’s a few examples on this page, but plenty more to see hanging on the gallery walls. And if you have some free time Saturday, Brown will be presenting a short history on the technique of hanga woodblock printing from 11 a.m. to noon – for free.
