The Concord City Auditorium will host its 16th annual perennial exchange Saturday to help usher in Concord’s gardening season, from 8 a.m. to noon, rain or shine.
It’s free and open to all, so you should probably know how the perennial exchange works: Perennial plants are ambitious, persistent and wandering. You’ve got a flock of phlox? A host of hosta? A diorama of daisies? Dig some up, split them, put them in cans or boxes and bring them down to the Audi . . . to exchange for new varieties.
And, if you’re just starting a garden, there’ll be some extra plants for you. Take your new plants home and settle them into your garden. It’s all to beautify the city’s streetscape, which is getting lovelier every year!
At the exchange you can also get advice from Dr. Splat, the perennial exchange’s Master Gardener, buy a last-minute mug for Mothers Day and take part in a raffle with 10 prizes – and 10 winners.
There will also be affordable annuals.
The exchange is sponsored by The Friends of the Audi and Concord’s General Services Department.
