There’s a movie sneak peek, people skating in circles and beer tastings

And Friday there’s pizza for April Fools’

Tuesday

If you have a child between the ages of 4 and 8 who you want to play baseball this season, go to the Concord Boys and Girls Club, 55 Bradley St., from 6 to 8 p.m. for registration. Play ball!

Wednesday

If you’re into sneak peeks, then do we have a good one for you. Concord filmmaker Dan Habib has been working on a new documentary, Intelligent Lives, and will be showing a 14-minute preview of the film at Red River Theatres at 5 p.m. The screening will be followed by a discussion about the issues addressed in the documentary. Tickets are $10.

Whenever we hear the words beer and wine, our attention quickly focuses. And if you do the same, then listen up. The Falcon Boosters Club is hosting its second annual “Taste of Bow Spirit” event at the Old Town Hall, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. We don’t know about you, but we all of a sudden got a little thirsty.

We’ve always thought it would be cool to climb Mount Everest. But the whole training thing, lack of oxygen and danger component has kept us far away from the world’s tallest mountain. But adventurer Edward Webster didn’t let those minuscule details stand in his way and he’ll tell you all about it at the Concord City Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. The free talk is part of the Walker Lecture Series.

Thursday

As the calendar has shown us, it’s spring. So why not celebrate with a night out on the town at the YMCA’s annual Spring Social? Enjoy samples of beer and wine, appetizers, cast your vote in the Top Chef Cook-Off and bid on a few auction items from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $35 and can be purchased by calling the YMCA at 228-9622.

It’s the fifth annual Turkish Day at the N.H. State House cafeteria from noon to 2 p.m. There will be Turkish food, an art display, gifts and much more.

We’re animal people here at the Insider. So it’s no surprise that we recommend going to listen to author Peter Zheultin at the Concord Public Library at 6 p.m. Zheultin will talk about his book Rescue Road, which tells the story of Greg Mahle, who has driven more than a million miles in the past 10 years bringing up thousands of lost, abandoned and “death row” dogs to New England. It’s also the story of countless volunteers who give their hearts and souls to save these southern dogs and to find them their “forever homes.”

Friday

There’s free pizza and ice cream on Main Street for anyone who can adequately identify the importance of April 1. Well, actually there is no free pizza and ice cream, unless someone happens to leave it next to one of the many benches. It’s April Fools’ Day and we had to get in on the fun. We had you, didn’t we?

Nothing says a fun Friday night like watching people roller skate in circles. So join Granite State Roller Derby for the evening and cheer on your favorite skater. DJ Nazzy from WLNH will MC the skate-a-thon, as you pledge per lap or one fixed amount for the event. You can learn about the sport of roller derby (there will be a demonstration), meet your local roller derby athletes in person and participate in some fun spectator activities. Donations raised will benefit the New Hampshire Coalition Against Domestic Violence. Admissions is also by donation.

The League of N.H. Craftsmen is opening its latest exhibit and will host a reception from 5 to 7 p.m. “Continuing the Tradition” will feature work of the newest juried members of the League and will be on display through June 16.
