City Manager Tom Aspell has been pretty busy lately between the opening of North Main Street and, you know, running the rest of the city. It’s surprising, then, that he found the time to write us a nice letter keeping us abreast of what’s going on. Since this is the season of giving, we decided we’d share the news with you. Consider it an early Christmas present.
Flip the switch
Penacook to light it up
The Penacook Village Association will host its annual Penacook Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony on Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the Boudreau Square monument in downtown Penacook. The Penacook Elementary School Chorus will sing holiday favorites, Santa Claus will arrive via fire truck and refreshments will be served. Take note of that last part.
More construction
The work never ends
Just like at home, there’s always work to be done on Main Street. These days, though, the projects are small and purely aesthetic. Following the Thanksgiving holiday, granite and brick crews will put some finishing touches on our beautiful new downtown, replacing and repairing cracked and chipped bricks and pavers.
The small punch list of miscellaneous chores will be completed by Dec. 11, after which all crews will vacate Main Street for the winter season.
We’ll miss them dearly.
Finishing touches
Route 3 tweaks continue
Sewer and drain manhole inverts continue to be built as the contractor begins wrapping up for the season.
Installation of curbing is complete and the sidewalks and driveways have been paved with the base course of pavement. Loaming of the disturbed areas should be finished by the end of next week, as well as guardrail installation over Hoyt Brook. The contractor will conclude work for the season in the next week or two.
Paving near Loudon Road
Next week, crews will pave the first few hundred feet of the side streets on the south side of Loudon Road, between East Side Drive and Branch Turnpike. Traffic disruptions will be localized and local access will be maintained.
