Families in Transition, a Concord, Manchester and Dover based homeless services provider, will host its fourth annual Wicked FIT Run on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. in Rollins Park.
The certified 5K course will provide runners and walkers the opportunity to support FIT in their efforts of providing a home and hope to homeless families and individuals. It is a family-friendly, costume-themed, event.
This year’s goal is to have 600 runners/walkers in hopes that, collectively, they will raise $5,000 from their friends, family and colleagues, to help “chase away homelessness.”
The overall fundraising goal of the event through sponsorships, registrations and peer-to-peer fundraising is $20,000. All of the money raised will be used to provide housing and services to homeless families and individuals served by Families in Transition.
In 2014, FIT received more than 4,000 requests for housing and was able to provide housing and social services to nearly 700 people, half of whom were children.
People are encouraged to create teams and dress in costume. Prizes will be awarded in several costume categories, as well as race finish times.
The cost to register, if done before noon on Wednesday, is $25 for adults over age 20, $15 for individuals aged 13-19 and free for kids under 12.
To register as an individual or team, go to fitnh.org/wickedfitrun. Same day registrations will be permitted, but will cost an additional $5 per person.
In addition to the 5K, there will be a kids fun course that will feature obstacles, team mascots and prizes. Children 8 years old and under are invited to participate in this free course which begins at 9 a.m.
The lead event sponsors include Well Sense Health Plan, Merrimack County Savings Bank, Runner’s Alley and Phenix Mutual.
Families in Transition is a nonprofit organization that provides safe, affordable housing and social services to individuals and families who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless, enabling them to gain self-sufficiency and respect.
FIT also owns and operates two thrift stores in Concord and Manchester, which serve as economic engines to help pay for services that FIT provides.
