We sure do hope you enjoy being told what to do. Because if you haven’t noticed, over the last couple of weeks, we’ve been making a big point to tell you about all the big events happening in the city. And we sure do hope you’ve been taking our advice ’cause if not, you’ve been missing out. So we strongly suggest getting out there this week. You can thank us later.
Tuesday
Who wouldn’t want to take a trip to Italy? Well, that’s a silly question. Tonight, the Concord Chamber of Commerce will host an informational night about its nine-day trip in March at 5:30 p.m.
Thursday
Work Nest is kind of a new thing so we wouldn’t be surprised if you don’t know much about it. But if you’d like to know more, there’s a pop-in event today from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for people who want to see what it’s all about. And at 5:30 p.m., there will be an art opening featuring the work of Ali Keller. The event is free and open to the public.
Friday
How can you pass up the opportunity to walk down the middle of Main Street and get free candy from local merchants? The answer is you can’t, so you should probably check out Halloween Howl, which runs from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. There’s a costume parade at 6 p.m., open mic in Bicentennial Square and a haunted bus and playground at the YMCA. All of that just screams Halloween.
The Bow Parks and Recreation Department is hosting a Halloween party at Bow High School, starting at 4:30 p.m. with trick-or-treating, a haunted house, Halloween games, a costume parade at 5:45 p.m. and a magic show at 6. Need we say more?
If you just can’t wait another day to dress up, head over to Kimball-Jenkins for a Haunted Mansion Masquerade from 8 p.m. to midnight. This is a 21-plus event with a $25 admission charge, although you will save $5 if you wear a mask. There’s a prize for best dressed, a cash bar and door prizes.
If you like really old silent movies, then keep reading. If you like it when music is played to represent what is going on in said silent film then you should probably check out Red River’s screening of Alfred Hitchcock’s The Lodger at 7 p.m. Silent film composer Jeff Rapsis will handle the music so all you have to do is sit down and enjoy the movie. Oh, and don’t forget the popcorn
Saturday
Anyone can go out for a run, but it takes a talented individual to do it in full Halloween costume. But when it’s for a good cause, it’s amazing what people can accomplish. At 9:30 a.m., Families in Transition will host its fourth annual Wicked FIT Run in Rollins Park on a certified 5K course. There’s also a kid’s fun course beginning at 9.
Books-A-Million wanted to get in on the costumed fun, so it’s hosting a Halloween Comicfest, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., where they encourage all of you to come in dressed in your favorite comic book character. Challenge accepted?
Sunday
Help celebrate the completion of trail connections from Marjory Swope Park by taking a hike with Five Rivers Conservation Trust. It’s about a 3.5 mile hike on the new trail that connects Dimond Hill Farm with Marjory Swope Park. There’s a $5 suggested donation and you’ve got to email info@5rct.org to reserve your spot.
Monday
It’s a jam-packed evening with Symphony New Hampshire. First, bassist Robert Hoffman will talk about “music painting pictures,” from 5 to 6 p.m., in the Concord Library auditorium followed by a free concert at the Capitol Center for the Arts at 7 p.m. Tickets are limited so don’t wait too long to reserve your spot at ccanh.com/event/symphony-new-hampshire.
