City Briefly

Each week, City Manager Tom Aspell rushes out to get the latest and greatest school supplies to ensure he’s ready for yet another school year. But before using his pens and notebooks for actual school work, he practices his penmanship on the city memo.

Get filing

The elections are coming

The city’s next municipal election will be held Tuesday, Nov. 3.

Those wishing to file for municipal office may do so at the City Clerk’s Office beginning Friday, Sept. 4, through Monday, Sept. 14. The filing fee to run for mayor or city councilor is $5. To run for a ward official position the fee is $1, Aspell writes. To run for fun, that will only cost you precious couch time.

Filings will be taken for the office of mayor, ward councilor, councilor-at-large, ward moderator, ward clerk and supervisor of the checklist.

Please contact the City Clerk’s Office via email at  cityclerk@concordnh.gov or by phone at 225-8500 with any questions. For additional election-related information, visit our election web page at concordnh.gov.

Nothing like free stuff

The city is pleased to announce that more than 600 children jumped into pools across the city this summer, thanks to a $10,000 sponsorship from Concord Housing & Redevelopment for the Parks and Recreation Department’s swim lesson program, Aspell writes. Thankfully not all 600 kids jumped in at once. Talk about  a good way to stress out the city lifeguards.

Children from Concord and Penacook enjoyed free lessons as a record number of families took advantage of the program offered at the Heights, Garrison, Merrill, Rolfe and Rollins Park pools, Aspell writes.

Looking good

Audi gets a face-lift

The Public Properties pision has finished painting the exterior of the City Auditorium. The project was completed before the show season begins and has already been receiving great feedback from the community, Aspell writes. Reportedly, the feedback has been mostly in smiles and high fives.

The Public Properties pision has been significantly increasing its painting initiatives to improve the aesthetics of municipal facilities and maintain overall property conditions.

It’s still going

More construction

Next week, the stone and brick crews will arrive downtown. Throughout next week, the crews will construct the brick zone, which will begin at Centre Street and move south; install center median cobblestones; and lay granite pavers at the Park Street and Capitol Street bump outs, Aspell writes. It will be like a kids fun zone, only for brick lovers.

In addition, crews will begin construction of the Park Street and Capitol Street crosswalks, will continue the installment and construction of granite sidewalk planters, and work towards completion of the area in front of Northway Bank.
