Still Life: A Three Pines Mystery
Director, Peter Moss
2014, 88-minute DVD
Fiction
Are you a fan of Canadian author Louise Penny’s Chief Inspector Armand Gamache? Did you know that the first Three Pines mystery, Still Life, has been made into a movie? If you are not familiar with this mystery series, the movie is a wonderful introduction to the detective team, village residents and locale. I’m sure you’ll soon be reading the books.
This well-crafted movie has wonderful actors (e.g. Nathaniel Parker of Inspector Lynley fame as Armand) portraying the quirky inhabitants of Three Pines, including the acerbic Ruth Zardo. The author herself says that she almost cried the first time she saw the actors on set as they so wonderfully represented her characters, and this was before she even saw them acting! A beautiful location was chosen to represent the fictional Three Pines, an isolated village in the Eastern Townships of Quebec that attracts artists to its valley.
It is fall when beloved retired school teacher Jean Neal is found dead in the surrounding woods shot by an arrow through the heart. Was it murder or a hunting accident? Inspector Gamache and his team must uncover lies and deceits harbored by the residents before solving the mystery.
The latest Three Pines book, The Nature of the Beast, is due out in August. Place your reserve today on the movie or the book, which is on order. An award-winning author not to be missed. Vive Gamache!
