Each week, City Manager Tom Aspell celebrates the birthday of the city memo by jamming 250 candles into it and lighting them all. He’s so winded from blowing them out that he passes out, but thankfully he mumbles the new memo in his stupor. Here it is!
Are you ready for some . . .
Bleachers? We hope so
The Doane Diamond press box at Memorial Field was completely renovated last spring, and now Concord General Services’ Public Properties Division is continuing Memorial Field restorations by upgrading the bleachers at the football stadium as well, Aspell writes. They will now include stainless steel appliances and a tile backslash.
Approximately 1,200 pieces of 15-year-old lumber were removed from the bleachers. We’d call the removed pieces rickety, but only if rickety means “might fall to your death through them at any moment.”
The new bleachers will be constructed from new Southern yellow pine boards. Those were more readily available than Northwestern Fuchsia boards. This project is scheduled for completion within the next couple of weeks before the football season begins.
Bang Bang Clank Clank
Construction noises!
Starting yesterday, even more dirt was visible on Main Street as crews began to demolish sidewalks, working from north to south, Aspell writes. Random aside: Demolishing Sidewalks = great album name. Road grading began as well. Tuesday through Friday, the crews will be working from north to south installing light bases. On Wednesday, the first major addition to the west side will appear as the first layer of pavement will be laid from Centre Street to Capital Plaza.
