Thirteen deserving students seeking a career in health care received scholarships through the Concord Hospital Trust Scholarship Fund at an awards luncheon at Concord Hospital on Tuesday, June 30.
The following recipients received nursing scholarships: Amber Caplette, Rachel Demers, Ashley Godbout, Jeanne Guay, Bethany Labrecque, Sandrine Ndetah, Leandra Rumfelt, Susan Storey, Benton Taylor, Dominique Vaillancourt, and Lindsay Young. In addition, two allied health awards were given to: Danielle Cate and Nicole Foley.
The Concord Hospital Trust Scholarship Fund, part of the trust’s endowment, provided $33,988.91 in scholarship support. The fund comprises a number of scholarships originally established to support Concord Hospital School of Nursing, which closed in 1989, together with more recently established scholarships.
The Concord Hospital Trust Scholarship Committee, a volunteer sub-committee of the trust’s Stewardship Committee and led this year by co-chair Alan Blake, received 40 applications. The applications were reviewed in a “blind” process; the committee members did not see the names of the applicants until the final weight was determined after reviewing all of the eligibility guidelines.
“It was truly gratifying to award these scholarships,” said Pamela Puleo, Concord Hospital Trust executive director. “The luncheon represented a culmination of great work by our scholarship fund volunteers. We were so pleased to be able to fulfill the intentions of our original scholarship fund donors.”
