The Capital Quilters Guild celebrated Christmas a little early last Friday – at least sort of. Members of the guild gathered at Havenwood to kick off their annual Christmas stocking community service project. Armed with sewing machines, plenty of Christmas fabric and some delicious looking snacks, 16 quilters got together to sew and stitch 18 stockings that will be filled with personal care items and things like puzzle books and playing cards to distribute to those in need at the McKenna House and the Friends Program Family Shelter. This was just the beginning of the project, and over the course of the next few months, members will sew at home to make sure there’s plenty, like more than 50, to fill when the December holiday rolls around.
