Each week, City Manager Tom Aspell makes the city memo chase chickens through the backyard, drink raw eggs and run up the steps of the State House to the sound of motivational music. When it gets to the top, it jumps up and down and shouts out in excitement. Turns out it’s yelling this week’s memo!
You down with opp?
Nope, just our own
The Public Properties Division of the General Services Department has been very busy maintaining the city’s various properties, Aspell writes. Now that we’ve solved that riddle, we’re off to find out who is buried in Grant’s tomb.
Staff recently finished renovating the Green Street Community Center, which included a new paint finish throughout the facility, cleaned and upgraded bathrooms and locker rooms (with new elements such as toilet partitions, vanities and window sills) and a new gym floor. Staff also recently coordinated the installation of the docks near the Everett Arena for public use, turned the water fountains on for the season at Bicentennial and Eagle Squares and painted the pool houses and pump rooms at Garrison and Rolfe Parks. Sadly, nobody has taken our suggestion to also build a Slip-N-Slide in the median on I-93.
Psyched for bikes
Bid on some new wheels
The Concord Police Department’s annual bicycle auction will take place June 5 at the Green Street Community Center, 39 Green St. (behind the police station), Aspell writes. Viewing of the bicycles begins at 5:30 p.m. (hopefully they’ll all be in their best formal attire), and the auction will start at 6 p.m.
Happy little trees
Green stuff arriving
This week, crews will begin planting the first of many new trees downtown, Aspell writes, as part of the Main Street redesign project. We hope there’s a few Bonsai trees! The installation of new light posts will also begin.
In addition, crews will be laying stone and brick from the Park Street bump-out to the clock tower, building furniture zone foundations – but sadly not tiny doll house furniture – working on the crosswalks and fine grading the southern sections of the furniture zone.
