On May 22 and 23, at 8 p.m., the St. Paul’s School Ballet Company will present its second annual spring performance on the school’s campus in Concord. The repertory program is designed to bring a greater level of awareness and appreciation of ballet and contemporary dance to the greater Concord community. The show is free of charge and open to the public. Each show will last approximately one hour, and the house will open 30 minutes before curtain.
The repertory includes “Halcyon” by Boston Conservatory professor and choreographer Sydney Skybetter, “It’s A Jungle Out There,” a new work by retired New York City Ballet veteran Philip Neal, and a Merce Cunningham “MinEvent,” accompanied live by American composer of experimental classical music Christian Wolff.
The SPSBC dancers will hear Christian Wolff’s score for their performances for the first time as it happens – live – at the “MinEvent,” while Wolff knows only that he will play for 24 minutes – not the specifics of the choreography he will accompany.
