City Briefly

Each week, City Manager Tom Aspell straps his entire stuffed animal collection into the front of his Iditarod sled and heads out for a training run, finding the going extremely snuggly and adorable, if a little slow. He spends most of his time encouraging his team with cutesy baby talk, which translates into the city memo!

Get trashy for free

Purple bags up for grabs

Concord General Services is bringing back the opportunity for Concord residents to win free pay-as-you-throw trash bags, Aspell writes. And this close to Valentine’s Day? How romantic!

All new and existing subscribers to General Services News Flash topics on the city website will be entered to win a bundle of 30-gallon, purple PAYT bags to use for curbside trash collection (or a sweet Grimace costume for next Halloween!) Residents will be entered to win up to three times if they subscribe to each of the three General Services News Flash topics: General Services; General Services – Street Maintenance; and General Services – Trash & Recycling.

Visit concordnh.gov/notifyme to subscribe and enter for your chance to win before the contest closes March 1.  Five winners will be randomly selected. Visit concordnh.gov/solidwaste for full instructions and official rules.

Hold the pickles

But not the Pickleball

Indoor Pickleball is back, Aspell writes. Outdoor Pickleball is not back, because we’re all trapped in a terrible, terrible snow globe.

Pickleball will be played at the Green Street Community Center on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to noon and at the new Heights Community Center on Wednesdays from 5:30 to 8 p.m., and Thursdays from 3 to 5:30 p.m. The cost to play is $2. Any additional pickling is to be done on your own time.

Who wants to take a dip?

Apply for summery stuff

Perhaps to convince us all that summer has to be a thing again someday, the Parks & Recreation Department is currently recruiting for lifeguards, camp counselors, tennis instructors and water safety instructors for summer 2015. Apply online at concordnh.gov. The department’s Spring & Summer Camp Brochure is also now available and has been delivered to area schools. There are many new programs this year. The brochure can be found online at http://esuite.concordnh.gov/recreation/flipbook/index.html.
