Each week, City Manager Tom Aspell lights a couple hundred candles in his office and puts on the recording of the Valentine we had the Concord Chorale sing him last year. While dancing around the room, he tips over one of the candles and lights the building on fire. But the trail of fire extinguisher foam spells out a city memo!
That’s a wrap
Zamboni looks purty
The Zamboni for the Douglas N. Everett Arena has been transformed from its original plain white color, to a new wrap with vibrant blue and green colors, which promotes Casella Resource Solutions, the city’s contractor for solid waste and recycling, Aspell writes. The new Zamboni wrap is not the same thing as Pitbull’s less celebrated Zamboni rap, which mostly just featured him in sunglasses pumping his fist.
Watch Concord General Services’ new YouTube video to see how AMI Graphics wrapped the Zamboni. The video also features Deputy City Manager Brian LeBrun, Arena & Properties Manager Jeff Bardwell, Solid Waste Manager Adam Clark, General Services Director Chip Chesley, and Aspell, who plays himself. The revamped Zamboni looks great. Be sure to check it out at the Everett Arena.
Need a lift?
Crane saves the day
Last month, the Parks & Recreation Department, utilizing a tree removal service with a crane, had three dangerous trees removed from three different cemeteries, Aspell writes. It’s all part of a neighborhood watch initiative to clean up the streets for those in the cemetery.
The trees were identified as hazardous after the Thanksgiving Day storm by the General Services Department’s arborist, Ryan Rambeau, who must have just been crossing his fingers since then. The trees were located in Blossom Hill, Old Fort and Old North cemeteries. The trees were quite large and situated in areas requiring the use of a crane to assist in the removals. The tree in the Old North Cemetery had to be lifted over the neighbor’s house due to the location of the tree and the graves surrounding it.
