City Briefly

Each week, City Manager Tom Aspell installs giant fans on either end of his desk in hopes of turning it into an air hockey table. But all he does is make it really cold in there! But the chattering of his teeth sounds out a city memo!

Pahk the cah

For half a buck, that is

Beginning on or about Feb. 2, the city will start charging for public parking at the N.H. Employment Security Building parking lot located at 32-34 S. Main St., Aspell writes. Coincidentally, an expected increase in residents digging through their couch cushions for coins is expected on or about Feb. 2.

The parking lot has access from South State and Fayette streets. Parking will be 50 cents per hour, with no minimum or maximum time limit. This rate is identical to the current cost for public hourly parking in the city’s three municipal parking garages.  The lot will be managed using Cale parking kiosks.

Simonella says

Here, have this picture

The city of Concord would like to express its gratitude to resident John Simonella, who recently gifted the city with a framed and matted picture of historic Boutin Street, Aspell writes. City council authorized the acceptance of this gift Jan. 12. That must have been one heated political debate!

The picture will be hung on the 2nd floor of city hall, just outside the city manager’s office (does that make this memo a conflict of interest?) The city greatly appreciates Simonella’s generosity and looks forward to displaying the beautiful picture of Concord’s history in city hall for our residents and visitors to enjoy.

Fond of the pond

Because the ice is nice

The ice skating pond at Beaver Meadow Golf Course is open and free to use, Aspell writes.  And its much harder to hit golf balls into now!

The new 19th Hole Restaurant will be open for food and drinks from 11 a.m.to 4 p.m. on weekends when the skating pond is open. Visit the 19th Hole Restaurant’s Facebook page and “like” it to stay connected (you won’t actually be tethered to anything).  They are booking events for 2015 and the city is working with them on some great events for the upcoming golf season.

Also, you can still buy a 2015 membership at the 2014 rates.  In order to take advantage of this offer, memberships must be pur-chased by Jan. 26. Memberships can be bought online at beavermeadowgolfcourse.com or at the parks & recreation department office.
