Following the exploits of vengeance-driven Thorfinn, Vinland Saga is a spectacular visual tale of blood and warfare in Dane-controlled England at the start of the 11th century.
At the loss of his father by the hands of Viking warriors, young Thorfinn is taken in by the bloodthirsty lot, vowing to kill the man responsible – the company’s leader, Askeladd. Manipulated into performing tasks for Askeladd in order to win the right to duel him, Thorfinn becomes a hardened warrior by his teens. Askeladd’s company and Thorfinn end up taking part in the fascinating political struggles of the time, and come up against unexpected difficulties.
This strong, dramatic series showcases its violence with a certain amount of glee, but at the same time ruminates on the pointlessness of that violence, and of revenge. The characters are multifaceted and interesting, keeping you involved in the story and wanting more.
