City briefly

Each week, City Manager Tom Aspell pedals his monster truck Hot Wheels to the top of Concord’s tallest hill and heads down the other side trying to establish new city manager land-speed records. And he does! Unfortunately he goes so fast his eyebrows blow away, but they spell out a city memo on the way down.

Fresh Aeration

Worky stuff is done

Staff at the Hall Street Wastewater Treatment Plant have been preparing for the replacement of the facility’s aeration tank diffusers, Aspell writes. Preparations include heading to the basement with tons of bottled water and plenty of canned food.

Staff has removed, cleaned and reinstalled 1,452 aeration diffusers in the last week as part of the fiscal year 2015 Capital Improvement Program. Staff entered the 15+ foot deep aeration basin to remove the old diffuser disks and hand cleaned each plastic diffuser head for the installation of the new diffusers. But then again who among us hasn’t spent a weekend doing all of that?

Maintenance, operation and laboratory staff have all been working 10-hour days in order to complete this project within the projected four-day schedule and they have all demonstrated an exceptional level of dedication and expertise. The first of two tanks was completed last week; the second tank is schedule for completion later this fall.

Up to date updates

That’s what update means

Through the end of this week, Severino Construction and city staff will continue marking utility layout on North and South Main Streets, Aspell writes. A team of dogs was not chosen to perform the marking for obvious reasons.

Preconstruction video and photographic documentation of building exteriors will occur this week, as well. Main Street utility work and Eagle Square renovations will take place this fall until Veteran’s Day. Heavy construction on North Main Street will begin in the spring of 2015 and will wrap up in November 2015. Construction on South Main Street will begin in the spring of 2016 and will conclude in November 2016. Construction of an entirely new Main Street that will hover over the current Main Street is slated for 2058.

Too MCCool for school

You’re the public, right?

On Sept. 25 at 7 p.m., the Concord Public Library will host a free public information workshop with Gary McCool, associate professor at Plymouth State University, Aspell writes. All public information ever will be covered. It’s gonna be a long meeting.

Actually, the workshop will focus on the Foundation Center’s Foundation Directory Online database, which is used for non- profit grant research. If you are looking for grants for a non- profit organization, don’t miss this opportunity. Or if you just really like reading entire databases, we recommend you stop down immediately after getting a full psychological evaluation.
