Bring your family and friends to this year’s fifth annual East Concord Pork Festival at Grace Episcopal Church in East Concord Aug. 17 from noon to 3 p.m.
Enjoy a delicious meal of roast pork, hamburgers, hot dogs, baked beans, potato salad, cole slaw and brownies. Lots of family fun, and live music by Balladeer Jim Barnes and a variety of raffles. This event is free to the public but donations are welcomed. Once again, the food is sponsored by our friends at Quality Cash Market.
Proceeds go toward our Take-A-Tote ministry to feed Concord’s hungry schoolchildren. The Take- A-Tote program was developed as an outreach goal of the Bishop’s Committee in 2009 to provide weekend “totes,” packed with food that was nutritious, nonperishable and inexpensive. Children who receive free or reduced cost lunches during the school week often have little food support at home on the weekend. By delivering cloth bags each week filled with cereal, pasta, soup cups, ramen noodles, as well as fresh fruit, breakfast bars and packages of crackers and cheese, the church has ensured that at least 25 families at Mill Brook School have supplemental food to nourish their child on the weekend. This year the Concord School Board recognized Grace Episcopal Church as “Champions for Children” because of this program.
Food and cash donations come from Grace Church members, attendees of the church’s monthly suppers and from the proceeds of the annual Pork Fest. Visit us at facebook.com/taketote for more.
