(book 1 of Three Doors Trilogy)
Emily Rodda
2011, 264 pages
Fiction
The walls of Weld have kept the people both protected and ignorant of what lies behind the high-fantasy, fast-paced world of The Golden Door. At night, death and destruction comes to the people of Weld. The walls of the city of Weld do not protect them from being attacked by ferocious flying creatures. The Warden sends volunteers to find and destroy the enemy who is sending the invaders. They never return. Because his brothers are among the lost, Rye, who is officially too young to go, decides he must go and find them.
As Rye stands before the three doors (Golden, Silver and Third) one of which he must choose in order to begin his mission, he is joined by young Sonia, who becomes his companion—despite his best efforts to lose her. The action-packed plot is filled with monsters, tricksters and twists. It moves along quickly keeping readers guessing as to what will happen next to Rye and Sonia.
