Each week, City Manager Tom Aspell frantically runs around Concord, changing the clocks in every office building in hopes of extending daylight. He sets off an alarm after hours, though, and is forced to go on the lam. Thankfully, you can write city memos from the lam.
Your No. 1 fan
Arena parts repaired
General Service’s Public Properties Division re-worked the existing fans on the Douglas N. Everett Arena, Aspell writes. The fans were being belligerent and refused to stop booing. Actually, it wasn’t real people fans – the original exhaust louvers were frozen.
The exhaust louvers, grill, and belts were replaced. The new belt is much more fashionable and is a tremendous accessory with sun dresses. R&T Electric tested all the wiring and installed new switches. The arena had been ventilated through the Munters Dehumidification System during the ice skating season, but now the rehabilitated exhaust fans will offer ventilation in the non-ice skating season to allow more air circulation throughout the building year-round.
Reclaiming what’s ours
Really, they’re just streets
As Route 3 corridor improvements continue, drain work in the vicinity of Washington Street and Coral Street was completed last week in preparation for this week’s paving operation, Aspell writes. The operation is set to be performed by a board certified physician. Or a paver.
Village Street from Coral Street to Merrimack Street, including Washington Street, will be reclaimed and paved beginning Aug. 5 and running through Aug. 7. The roads will be reclaimed via the cunning use of flags.
During the reclaiming operation on Tuesday, one-way traffic through the area will be maintained. Four-way traffic will not be, because that would be dangerous. On Wednesday and Thursday, Village Street and Washington Street will be closed for the work at the roundabout. A detour will be setup with the use of multiple flaggers to direct traffic where to go. The temporary detour will be established utilizing Canal Street, Community Drive, Allen Street, Meter Street, Charles Street and Tanner Street. That’s a lot of streets. Village Street will be closed at Coral/Bonney and at Merrimack Street. Washington Street will be closed at Meter/Charles. Detour signs will be in place to direct traffic through the detour. Local businesses will remain open and access will be provided to patrons.
