Witnesses from all walks of life – including health experts, labor leaders, industry leaders and environmental advocates – will testify at a citizens hearing on Monday, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Concord Public Library, in support of the EPA’s Clean Power Plan released in June. Sponsors of the citizens hearing are Environment New Hampshire, League of Conservation Voters, Moms Clean Air Force, National Wildlife Federation, New Hampshire Sierra Club and the Union of Concerned Scientists.
The hearing comes after the EPA announced the Clean Power Plan, which will put in place the first-ever, federal standards on carbon pollution from power plants. Carbon pollution fuels climate change, triggers more asthma attacks and respiratory disease, worsens air quality and contributes to more frequent, destructive, costly and deadly extreme weather events.
The Clean Power Plan will prevent up to 150,000 asthma attacks and 6,600 premature deaths annually by 2030, according to the EPA.
The event comes ahead of regional public hearings led by the EPA to seek public comment on the proposed action.
