The 22nd annual National Letter Carriers “Stamp out Hunger” Food Drive was held on Saturday, May 10.
Twenty-one local food pantries and social service agencies in the greater Concord area were the recipients of non-perishable food as a result of Merrimack County’s participation.
This year, nearly seven tons of food was collected and distributed locally through this collaborative effort of the NALC, Granite United Way-Merrimack County Region and the Capital Region Food Program.
Local residents collected and bagged non-perishable food items and placed them by their mailboxes and letter carriers delivered the donations to the Capital Region Food Program for distribution. Last year, more than 74 million pounds of food was donated nationally as part of the largest single-day annual food drive in the country.
“This event could not happen each year without the support of the local business community and the wonderful volunteers who work tirelessly to sort and distribute donations to help our neighbors in need,” said Val Guy of Granite United Way.
