So ladies, let’s be honest with each other. We know there are multiple dresses sitting in the back of your closet that you haven’t worn in years.
You’ve thought about donating those bridesmaid dresses, that lacy creation you wore to prom and even your wedding dress. But each time you decide to toss it in the keep pile just in case. Well, it’s safe to say that you’re not alone. Women all over the world have this dilemma when spring cleaning time rolls around.
We know there’s a part of you that would love to throw on that old frilly creation and hit the town one last time. And have we got just the event for you. For the second year in a row, the Concord Mom Prom is giving you the chance to get dolled up in the tackiest/most fabulous dress you can find. Sorry guys, but this is only for women.
“Just come out, have fun and showcase a tacky dress,” Concord Mom Prom coordinator Michelle Myler said. “Wear that dress you’d thought you’d never wear again.”
The Mom Prom will be held Friday at the Holiday Inn from 7 to 11:30 p.m. It’s part of a national ladies night out and it’s all for charity. This year, Families in Transition will benefit from the event.
“We want to raise as much money as possible,” Myler said. “We’re hoping to raise a few thousand dollars.”
Cost is $35 in advance and $40 at the door and the hope is to see more than 100 women showing up in a dress they never thought would ever see the light of day. Word on the streets is that thrift stores in the area have seen a spike in dress sales because there’s a bit of competition involved with the Concord Mom Prom.
There will be tiaras, sashes and prizes handed out for the tackiest dress, best wedding dress and for the one wearing the best original prom dress. The price of admission will include appetizers, access to two photo booths and the ability to dance the night away with some fun loving ladies. There will be a cash bar and raffle prizes and the decor may even remind you of you went to your high school prom, depending on what year and decade that happened.
“It’s for women of all ages,” Myler said. “It’s not just about moms. It’s a ladies night out event.”
And in case we forgot to mention, this isn’t an event strictly for moms. That’s just the name of the event. It’s actually open to women ages 18 and older who are looking to boogie down on the dance floor.
“They play prom songs from the 80s and 90s,” Myler said. “It’s really a huge dance party.”
Myler said the best part of the night is seeing all the crazy dresses that will walk through the door. Last year there was some hesitation because some didn’t know what to wear, but Myler doesn’t expect it to happen again. It should be a colorful explosion of frills, lace and shoulder poofs.
With ticket sales having already surpassed last year’s total, Myler hopes this just year two of a long-term event.
“This year it’s looking to be about double,” Myler said of the attendance. “We have a goal of selling at least 100 tickets.”
