On April 17, NHTI’s Wings of Knowledge Lecture Series presents nationally renowned Fight Master and award-winning teacher David S. Leong. The presentation will take place from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the NHTI Library Living Room. It is free and open to the public.
Leong grew up on a steady TV diet of Robin Hood, Superman, and Zorro. His favorite toys were the bow and arrow, knife and gun, sword and cape. He went on to train with Errol Flynn’s sword master and rose to become one of the premiere Broadway fight choreographers today. Leong’s fight choreography and action sequences have been seen in over 300 plays and musicals from New York City to London’s West End.
His fight choreography can now be seen on Broadway in the courtroom drama A Time to Kill, based on the best selling novel by Tom Grisham. Over the past 30 years, Leong has staged dozens of notable TV, film and theatre actors including Christopher Plummer, Hilary Swank, Sigourney Weaver, Don Cheadle, Kevin Spacey, Christopher Walken and many more.
He has taught master classes for over 150 colleges and universities around the globe, and has served on the faculty at the Juilliard School, Brandeis University, and Virginia Commonwealth University, where he holds the positions of Department Chair and Professor. Launched in 2001-02, Wings of Knowledge is an annual series of cultural events presented by the college. All events are free and open to the public. The series supports and expands upon NHTI’s wide variety of academic offerings, and is another element in the college’s expanding community college mission.
