Parks and recreation to offer variety of programs

Concord Parks and Recreation is pleased to announce that they will be hosting a multitude of different programs over the next coming months.

The Recreation Department will be offering hands-on classes such as Kids Can Cook! and a Kids Cook Off with Certified Holistic Health Counselor, Brenda Lewis, as well as a Sign Language Workshop instructed by Karen Braz, who has been an interpreter for well over thirty years.

For the athlete in all of us, children can enjoy Tot Tennis with Program Coordinator, Kari Inglis, and youth tennis lessons from USPTR pro Pattu Pillai, British Challenger April vacation soccer camps, and the Rec’s academy-style spring soccer league, too.

Those who are more interested in adventure can register for Intro to Climbing for ages 3-6 and grades 1-8 through Evolution Rock.

While the department offers various activities throughout the school year, be sure to check out the plethora of summer camps, such as Drama, Dance, Lego, Mad Science, and many more on their website!

Although there are numerous activities for children, moms and dads and other residents can most certainly partake in several of the programs geared towards adults.

Take an archery class, learn how to defend yourself in a Tae Kwon Do class, or a R.A.D self-defense class with Officer Amanda Reed from the Concord Police Department.

There will be an adult spring soccer league starting in May, as well as adult golf lessons, tennis lessons, and adult and senior tennis leagues.

A new fad that has become quite a hit at the Heights Community Center is pickleball; a racquet sport which combines elements of badminton, tennis, and table tennis. Pickleball can be played at the Heights Community Center until spring, and then will transition over to Merrill Park.

There are also several healthy running seminars as well as a 5K, Yes I Can! program that covers everything from correct shoe fitting to running form for those brave enough to get off the couch.

Furthermore, the Recreation Department will have their annual Easter Egg Hunts, July 4th Celebration, Summer in the City Music Series, and are very pleased to reveal their 2nd Weekend on the Waterfront event in September. And whether you want to travel alone or bring the whole family, don’t forget about the Boston Red Sox trip. Travel by bus for a day of Boston Red Sox baseball fun.
