Artwork crafted by New Hampshire Department of Corrections inmates and their children, “The Forgotten, Children of Incarcerated Parents” opens at the Kimball-Jenkins Estate on Monday and continues through April 24.
Nine life-sized murals titled “A Perfect Day with Dad” and three posters titled “A Family Portrait with Mom” created by male and female inmates and their children in 2012 and 2013 will be on display for members of the public to enjoy.
These art projects were created during the first two Children of Incarcerated Parents (CIP) summer camps, a collaboration between N.H. DOC and Child and Family Services’ Camp Spaulding.
Carol Fennelly, creator of the first prison camps for children and their incarcerated fathers, is the guest speaker at the opening reception on Wednesday from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Fennelly is the creator and Director of Hope House in Washington, D.C.
To support the third year of the Children’s of Incarcerated Parents summer camp, inmates at all three prisons have purchased raw materials and created beautiful wood crafts and furniture to be auctioned at an on-line auction at: biddingforgood.com/KimballJenkins/theforgottenchildren. This auction continues until April 10.
