So there were Anna McFarlin and Dakota Shedd, all set for a sweet weekend trip to Washington, D.C., when the worst winter of all time reared its ugly head again (winter rankings approximate.)
McFarlin and Shedd were selected to represent MV at the 2014 Congress of Future Medical Leaders conference in Washington last weekend. But snow wound up canceling their flight, and they weren’t able to rebook in time to make an appearance.
All is not lost, though! The young ladies will have their spots honored at the next such conference in November.
The conference is a three-day intensive conference for high- achieving high school students interested in the field of medicine. Students attend workshops with leaders in the field of medicine and medical science, including Nobel Prize recipients and National Medal of Science recipients.
They learn about the latest breakthroughs in medical science, including genetics, cancer research and prosthetics.
Both students were nominated based on their commitment to academic excellence and their passion for the field of health science. In addition, McFarlin was the recipient of a scholarship in the amount of $1,000 to help defray costs to attend this event.
