Each week, City Manager Tom Aspell dresses himself entirely in copies of the Insider, sets the timer on his camera and tries to run into the frame in time to catch what he believes will be a photo we will dub the best image of the decade. Alas, he runs so quickly the Insiders blow away, spelling out the city memo as they fall.

Snow didn’t stand a chance
Staff of the General Services Department’s Public Properties Division have been hard at work maintaining the operability of the Concord Airport during last week’s snowstorm, Aspell writes. Paper airplanes are currently the only grounded aircraft, staff is happy to imaginarily report.
Staff worked tirelessly throughout the storm and will continue the efforts until all cleanup is complete, which will be May. With the use of plows, snow blowers and snow brooms, as well as the application of snow melt treatment, the airport remained open and functional. Those are also, we believe, the materials necessary for a good waxing.

The new skating pond at Beaver Meadow Golf Course is now open, Aspell writes. The ski jumping pond is open as only a figment of our imagination.
The skating pond will be open daily from dawn until dusk, as conditions allow. Please note, there is no hockey allowed on this pond. Hockey-stalling sirens have been installed.
Patrons should park in the golf course parking lot and walk down to the pond. Or tuck and roll. Benches and picnic tables have been placed in the area, and thus far the number of active picnics reported is equal to the number of unicorn sightings. In addition, the cross country ski trails have been groomed and a snowshoe trail has been blazed down the left side of fairway 10 to access the city forest between the golf course and the river.
The Beaver Meadow Bar & Grille will be open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. for the next few weekends, weather permitting. As always, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and skating are free and open to the general public. The non-general public must fill out an application.
