Students at the Christa McAuliffe School had to do some heavy lifting Tuesday afternoon, and it was all their fault. After all, they were the ones who filled the dozens of cardboard boxes with food to be donated to the St. Vincent de Paul food pantry.
A food drive run by the CMS student council was a tremendous success, as several thousand items were collected in less than a month. The hallway just inside the door of the school was lined with cardboard boxes, most of which were completely full, which made for a few surprised grunts when third-grade arms tried to scoop them up (thankfully Mr. Pelletier was on hand to remind a few students to lift with their legs.)
All that food was loaded up for delivery Tuesday afternoon, and the procession was led by Mrs. Larochelle’s third-grade class. The students came ready to work and quickly loaded up three vehicles with food, including two station wagons and a pick-up truck.
We’re not sure if it was the excitement of pitching in during the holidays or the fact that it felt like it was 10 degrees outside, but the whole loading process took less than 20 minutes. That’s some serious third-grade focus!
