The Concord Public Library launched its new PlaySpace in the Children’s Room on Nov. 1.
The PlaySpace is a hands-on area offering activities to develop the skills children need to get ready to read.
Based on a program developed by the American Library Association, Every Child Ready to Read, the PlaySpace pinpoints five types of activities to build those skills: talking, singing, reading, writing and playing.
Some of the elements of the PlaySpace include a writing/drawing area, wooden blocks, a puppet stage, a magnet board with letters and words, and a dramatic play area that will feature different themes on a rotating basis.
In addition, there are age-appropriate toys to build fine motor skills and reinforce basic concepts like shapes and colors.
Children of all ages, and their grown-ups, are welcome to enjoy the PlaySpace. For more information, please call (603) 225-8670.
