The 27th annual Concord Christmas Tree Lighting Celebration will be held Friday, Nov. 29, with activities starting at 3:30 p.m.
The traditional lighting of the Nativity Scene and Christmas Tree at the State House Plaza has been the day after Thanksgiving. Coordinator Dick Patten along with volunteers are working hard to raise $8,000 dollars to pay for expenses.
The Concord Imaging Center has pledged to be a major corporate sponsor for this year.
This year’s celebration begins at 3:30 p.m. with a petting zoo, horse-drawn wagon rides by Bruce Locke of Pittsfield with pickup on Capitol Street, and bouncy houses on the State House lawn.
The Brian Waldron Band will return to sing holiday songs inside the bandwagon on the plaza at 4 p.m. WJYY Radio 105.5 will once again provide musical songs prior to the band with AJ Dukette emceeing from the stage.
The lighting of the Eagle Square tree, which is dedicated to the men and women of the Armed Forces who can’t be home, is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
The Rev. Robert Reed will be present to do the Blessing of the Tree and Nativity at 4:30 p.m.
Santa Claus will arrive at 5 p.m. courtesy of the Boscawen Fire Department.
There will be a storyteller reading Christmas stories to boys and girls at 5 p.m. Hot cider will be provided by Carter Hill Orchards, hot chocolate and coffee by Rotary Club of Concord, and more for people to enjoy.
The countdown to light the tree will begin at 5:59 p.m.
The Skip Houle Memorial Fireworks Display will light the skies over Concord at 6:05 p.m.
