Strap on your lederhosen and polka your way down to the Concord Co-op for the 5th annual Oktoberfest tasting of soup and stews, local and craft brews, bratwurst and fresh-baked bread Oct. 17 from 6 to 8 p.m.
The Concord Co-op’s award-winning Celery Stick Café chefs will whip up more than 25 of their customers’ favorite soups, stews, and chili for the event. These satisfying soups are made from scratch with all-natural ingredients and will be served alongside fresh-baked bread. Vegetarians, vegans, and carnivores alike will enjoy the variety, which includes such delights as Hungarian mushroom ale, butternut squash with chipotle cream, seafood chowder, spicy Thai soup, potato cheddar bacon soup, and the café’s famous chocolate soup. Many recipes are made without gluten ingredients, including the Cajun black bean soup, roasted tomato basil, and strawberry soup.
There will be several types of all-natural sausage and bratwurst on the grill. Everyone is invited to listen to live traditional Bavarian oompah-polka music from the Ed Chenoweth Alpiner Band, sip and munch on delicious samples, and connect with the community. Alongside the event, a wide variety of beer will be available to sample for free; many of them are brewed right in New England. Selected imports and seasonal offerings will also be sampled. Brew experts from the Concord Area Homebrewers will be on hand to answer your beer questions and lead a homebrewing demo.
“What’s better than soup, sausage, and beer?” said Scott Jones, the Co-op Café’s executive chef.
There is a $10 charge at the door for non-Co-op members to take part in the soup, brat, and bread tasting. It’s free for members and children age 12 and younger. All money raised will be donated to Making Strides Against Breast Cancer in Concord, to support this important local walk and fundraiser. Get there early! A limited quantity of complementary custom beer glasses will be available to attendees.
