From the outside, Centerpoint Church looks like any other 200-year-old New England church: ornate carvings, big ol’ swinging doors and lots of stone. In just a few short weeks, though, you’ll be transported into a whole new world when you step inside.The church is undergoing renovations to expand its children’s area in a unique and interesting way. It’s being decked out as an indoor Main Street, complete with a cinema, a candy shoppe and lots of other cool installations. Talk about a Main Street redesign!
“Concord is full – full full full! – of kids looking for a cool place to go, so we want to make one open for them,” Centerpoint’s Kidzone director Stacy Perkins told us.
Centerpoint will use this new installation for its summer camps and Sunday programs to inject a little fun into Bible study.
“This isn’t like the Sunday school that I remember,” Perkins said. “It’s a lot of fun.”
The church’s last round of renovations, just five years ago, expanded the children’s area significantly, but Perkins told us that the need has already outgrown the space. She feels confident that the new expansion will enable them to stay in the heart of the community, rather than move to a bigger space elsewhere.
“We definitely like being able to stay here downtown,” Perkins said, “so that anybody and everybody can just walk through that door. These renovations will allow us to stay down here with the young families.”
The area will be open to the public for the first time at Centerpoint’s annual free block party, which takes place on Sept. 14 from 1 to 5 p.m. The event will feature inflatables, food, games, a climbing wall, a mechanical surfboard (!) and lots more. For more information, visit centerpointnh.org.
