Each week, City Manager Tom Aspell prowls the streets at night in hopes of befriending certain critters for our skunks issue. When he’s told it’s actually a hunks issue, his outburst agitates the skunks, who spray him with the city memo.
We’ve got your back(pack)
Is it school time already?
The VFW Ladies Auxiliary, Post 1631 has provided Concord Human Services with backpacks filled with school supplies to be distributed to families who are unable to afford these essential school items, Aspell writes. This promotion has proven more effective at getting children to focus on schoolwork than the previous one, in which backpacks full of Snickers bars were handed out.
Thanks to this generous donation, 27 children will have a new backpack and supplies on the first day of school.
Many thanks also go to Gary Webb, for delivering the backpacks to the office. For his chiropractor’s sake, let’s hope he used a vehicle and didn’t just sling them all over his shoulder.
The department also received donations for its food pantry. Parking enforcement officer Paul Garland kindly remembers that the department always needs plastic bags, and he thoughtfully drops off food and bags to us every few weeks. In addition, Marty Bender from Temple Beth Jacob dropped off several bags of food this past week, including fresh vegetables from his own garden. Not included: the groundhog that has taken up residence in his garden.

More Loudon Road work
This week, the contractor working on the Loudon Road water main project will be installing a new water main between Branch Turnpike Road and Old Loudon Road. In related news, Old Loudon Road’s petition to be heretofore referred to as Wisened Loudon Road has been rejected.
