The Human Services Department was the grateful recipient of two donations last week. First, the department received a very generous donation from the South Congregational Relief Society to purchase CAT bus tickets. This is such a benefit for many of the people we serve who rely on public transportation. The price of gas has risen rapidly and it is more difficult for people without their own means of transportation to get rides from others; therefore, we expect an increase in requests for bus tickets. The South Congregational Relief Society has been supporting Concord Human Services for many years and we truly appreciate their generosity.
The department also received a donation from a generous and compassionate couple who wish to remain anonymous. Their donation of non-food items such as toilet paper, soap, detergent, shampoo and other essential household items will be used to replenish our pantry. These items cannot be purchased with food stamps and are costly to buy when someone is already struggling to pay for rent, utilities and food. We thank this couple for their timely and kindhearted donation.
We also want to give recognition to the ongoing support of the Capital Region Food Program and Temple Beth Jacob for keeping our food pantry stocked.
There has been much publicity recently about the increase in the use of food pantries and food insecurity in New Hampshire. We are very grateful for this wonderful local support that allows us to give food on a daily basis to people in need.
