Matt Mowery, editor of Business NH Magazine, was named one of the top 2 “losers” in the BetterU program sponsored by Harvard Pilgrim in partnership with the GENAVIX Wellness Network’s 90 Day Commit To Get Fit program at the Executive Health and Sports Center.
“I don’t use this phrase lightly, but this program has changed my life,” Mowery said. “I am down 45 pounds, which I am pretty darn proud of and could not have done without this program.”
Mowery’s video remarks were shared at the June 20 reveal event at Pleasant View Retirement.
Thirteen weeks ago, 61 participants from New Hampshire and three from Massachusetts embarked on a heart-healthy makeover after submitting an application stating reasons why they wanted to be involved in the program.
The other top 10 “losers” included Virginia Kovak of Concord. The biggest losers were determined based on biometric markers that were administered at both the beginning and conclusion of the 13 weeks. These markers included weight and body fat loss, waist circumference, blood pressure, fasting blood glucose, and total cholesterol.
The attendees were treated to a preview of the documentary Flat Line To Finish Line which features Concord resident Jeremy Woodward. The documentary follows eight cardiac-survivor athletes from across the county who are training to compete in an Iron Man Competition. Woodward is the father of two young girls and has survived two open-heart surgeries. He hoped that by sharing his story he would inspire the recent weightless winners to continue on their path towards heart health.
