Ann Covell, author of the new biography of Jane Pierce, will discuss the family, life, and times of President Franklin Pierce’s wife, one of the most intriguing, complex, and tragic of America’s first ladies. The lecture and book signing will be held June 6 at 7 p.m. at the New Hampshire Historical Society’s library, 30 Park St. Admission is free.
A British citizen, Covell had an extensive career in the U.K. health service management and research sectors. Now retired, she pides her time among the U.K., Spain and the U.S. Her main interests include 19th-century history, fine arts, and politics. She is also the author of Remembering the Ladies, a compendium of essays on 19th-century U.S. first ladies.
