Registration is now open for the Concord Public Safety Foundation’s second annual Fire Truck Pull. Teams of 10 inpiduals will once again face off against a 45,000-pound city of Concord reserve fire truck. Registration is limited to 20 teams, who compete for the fastest time. The starting horn sounds July 20 at 10 a.m. as teams show their strength by pulling the truck along a section of Main Street during the Market Days festival, crossing the finish line at the intersection of Pleasant and Main to a cheering crowd.
Competition will again be fierce, but all teams are ultimately pulling together to support the Concord Fire Department. The 2013 pull will raise funds to ensure CFD can provide the fastest in service and response, no matter where an emergency happens, by acquiring a Gator truck to help provide assistance and care off the beaten path in places like Concord’s hiking trails, at special events, and when fighting brush fires and other dangerous situations that happen off of Concord’s main road system.
Last year’s Fire Truck Pull was a terrific success, and enabled CFD to acquire a third LUCAS hands-free CPR device. All participating teams showed great spirit, dedication and goodwill. The Concord Fire team took home the big golden fire truck trophy for fastest pull time, with the Girls on Fire! crew winning for most money raised, Concord Hospital Emergency Department securing the best dressed nod, and the good natured Concord Food Co-op team accepting the slowest pull award.
“The Concord Public Safety Foundation’s Fire Truck Pull quickly gained recognition last year as a really fun way to support important fire department initiatives,” Kim Murdoch, CPSF board chairwoman, said. “Teams and spectators alike had a wonderful time, and 2013 promises to be another excellent community event. CPSF is grateful to the Concord community for continuing to help us support the Concord police and fire departments, by securing funds for important safety initiatives.”
Fire Truck Pull team slots are already filling; current competitors include delegations from Fun Intelligent Training, Concord Hospital, Merrimack County Department of Corrections, and Concord Fire Department. The Girls on Fire! Team will also make a return appearance. Registration information is available by visiting concordpublicsafety.org or emailing concordpublicsafety@gmail.com.
