Young and old alike appreciate Tomie dePaola’s children’s books. DePaola’s fine and distinctive artistic craftsmanship have won him numerous awards that include the Laura Ingalls Wilder Medal, Golden Kite Award, Aesop Prize, the Caldecott, Newbery Medals, and the Jeremiah Ludington Medals. He has been granted doctorial degrees from the University of Connecticut and Pratt Institute. While it is important to recognize dePaola for these premier awards, it is better still to have won our hearts with wonderful memories that will be passed on to future generations.
The Mill Brook Gallery and Sculpture Garden is proud to exhibit a wide range of dePaola’s unique paintings, incredible original book illustrations, and prints. The colorful paintings and famous illustrations will delight viewers of any age.
DePaola has been publishing for more than 40 years, and illustrated almost 250 books. More than 15 million copies of his books have been sold worldwide, and his work has been translated into 25 languages. dePaola has been named as a Living Treasure by the New Hampshire Governor’s Arts Awards.
The exhibit, “Tomie dePaola: Paintings, Illustrations, and Prints,” begins April 25 and goes through June 23. There will be an artist’s reception April 26 from 5 to 7:30 p.m.
