The Juanito Pascual New Flamenco Trio is coming to Red River Theatres April 5 at 7 p.m. The band will perform to raise money for this year’s Granite State Music Festival. We got a preview from Pascual.

What are people in for if they come to see your show at Red River Theatres?

This project is the fruition of a dream I’ve had since my mid-teens: a flamenco power trio. Jimi Hendrix meets Paco de Lucia. There is a special chemistry between myself and the two other members of the Trio (Brad Barrett, bass and Tupac Mantilla, percussion). Our approach is highly interactive, and it is never the same show twice.

Have you ever played in Concord before? What do you think of our fair city?

I have played at Tupelo Music Hall in Londonderry, and actually done some daytime performance in Concord for school kids. We have had great receptions when we have played in the area, and actually the school kids have always been extremely responsive, which is clearly a good sign.

This show is a fundraiser for the Granite State Music Festival. What made you want to help out their cause?

The operators are friends of mine, and I called Katy (Brown Solsky, event organizer) recently when we were putting this run of shows together. She mentioned the festival, which I had not heard about yet, and that they were doing some fundraising, so I thought that perhaps doing a benefit for this cause could be a great opportunity for both parties, and turned out the timing worked out for both, which is very exciting.

Fill in the blank: If not for     , you would not be where you are today.

Wow, a long list including my parents and a number of really special teachers over the years.

If you could share the stage with one musician or band, who would it be?

I love Santana, Jeff Beck, Derek Trucks. . . many others, but those three are at the top of my dream list these days.

Favorite musical instrument you’ve ever owned/played?

Well I’ve played the same guitar now for seven years built by Aaron Green, a Massachusetts-based luthier. I have played this one so much that I can do stuff with it that would take me a while to figure out on another guitar. So in that sense this current guitar is my favorite, though it is always very exciting and helpful to try new guitars.

You’ve just recorded a new album? When and where can we get it?

We are recording the new CD this Sunday through Tuesday. We will hopefully have it all mixed by late May, and if things go as scheduled it will be out this fall. It will be of course on my website, and will be on iTunes, where my other CDs are currently available.

Any last words for the Insider audience?

We have just come from an intensive period of CD prep and recording, so the band is on fire! Playing with these guys is an amazing experience, and we are are incredibly excited about this group. Playing live, the audience is part of that experience with us, and we are excited and grateful for each and every opportunity to share this passion of ours for making music.

Tickets are $25 or $15 for students. For more information, visit granitestateartsmarket.com.
