Concord Community Concerts ends its 2012-13 season April 19 with a “grande finale” with Brazilian virtuoso pianist Victor Cayres and announces an expanded 2013-2014 program – its 83rd season – opening with the Klezmer Conservatory Band in September.
The finale to its 82nd season will take place April 19 at 7:30 p.m. at the Concord City Auditorium.
Cayres’s appearance tops off his year of prize-winning international performances, including the 2012 Respighi Prize Music Competition of Bologna, Italy; the Concurso Internacional de Piano Premio Jaen in Spain; and the Leos Janacek International Piano Competition in the Czech Republic. In the United States, he received the 2012 Zulalian Award for distinguished achievements from Boston University, and his solo appearances included the Boston Pops Orchestra under Keith Lockhardt.
The upcoming 83rd year of bringing great classical and traditional music, affordable and accessible to everyone, to the capital area, will feature an expanded program of five world-class concerts, including:
Sept. 21 – The Klezmer Conservatory Band. Klezmer equals tradition. From the shtetls of Eastern Europe through emigration to America, to jazz clubs and Yiddish theater, and lately the KCB to Symphony Hall with Itzhak Perlman . . . and now to Concord City Auditorium.
Oct. 25 – Marika Hughes and Bottom Heavy. Favorite performers at New York’s top jazz venues such as The Blue Note, Joe’s Pub and 92nd St. Y, the combo is a first for Concord and a rare treat for jazz aficionados.
Jan. 19 – The Dartmouth Gospel Choir. Under the extraordinary direction of Walt Cunningham, the choir’s concerts include President Obama’s inaugural breakfast and now, a special matinee concert on Dr. Martin Luther King Holiday Weekend.
March 26 – Pavel Nersessian, pianist. One of the most remarkable pianists of his generation in Russia, being named a Merited Artist of the Russian Federation in 2005 highlights a brilliant international career.
April 25 – The New England Brass with Jay Daly. “The Saints Come Marching In” to City Auditorium again, as the trumpeter extraordinaire Jay Day leads the brass quintet back “by popular request.”
Also planned for 2013-14 is the return of Merrimack Music, showcasing the talents of young New Hampshire musicians on Sunday afternoons in March and an encore of the Student Outreach Program.
