Sweets are only half the story on Girl Scouts

Dear Mr. Food Snob,

I appreciate your recent review of the Girl Scout Thin Mint Sundae at the Common Man restaurant. I concur that the chocolate and mint combo is, indeed,  a gift from the Gods. The Girl Scouts got it right when they merged these two flavors and then whipped us all into a froth of pent-up Thin Mint desire by  only offering these cookies for a brief window every March. An ice cream sundae is the perfect vehicle for Thin Mints, perhaps only bested by  mainlining them direct from the freezer, a sleeve at a time.

But you have missed half the cookie story! The Girl Scout Cookie Sale is the largest financial literacy program nationwide. It is also the largest girl-led business in the US! Young girls learn to manage money, set goals,  decision making and business ethics. These are skills that they will take  forward into their future careers. The girls get to choose how they use their  “cookie dough” whether it is a field trip, attend camp, travel nationally  and internationally or help underprivileged Girl Scouts do any of the above.

I hope this information helps you to enjoy your Thin Mints a little more!
