We caught up with a recent “Girl of the Month” at Girls Inc., a fun after-school program that helps girls achieve their personal best through one-on-one attention, leadership development, enrichment programs, and a caring family environment. Each month, girls and staff choose a “Girl of the Month” who exemplifies their motto, “Strong. Smart. Bold.” This month’s winner is Jillian Zube (a multi-time Girl of the Month!).
How old are you? Where do you go to school?
I am 11 and I go to Beaver Meadow Elementary School.
How long have you been coming to Girls Inc.?
About 1-1/2 years.
Why do you think you were chosen Girl of the Month?
I have a go-to attitude and I’m always making sure everyone is safe.
What do you think is your best quality?
I treat others how I want to be treated – with kindness.
What are some qualities of a good female role model?
They stand up for what they believe is right, they are kind, and they stay true to themselves.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I like to shoot my bow, play with my dog, and ride my bike.
Have you read any good books lately?
The Babysitters’ Club series and Esperanza Rising.
What do you think is the hardest thing about being a kid these days?
HOMEWORK!
If you were president for a day, what would you do to help the country?
Give kids no homework for a month.
Who is your role model?
Danica Patrick and Tara Mounsey – they did sports that not many women have done, and they made history!
What is a personal goal you have for the coming year?
To help the SPCA.
What would you like to do when you grow up?
Be a fashion designer.
Who in your life deserves a shout-out for something great they did recently?
My mom and dad! They got me an iPad mini.
What is the best thing about being a girl?
All the fashion choices.
Do you have any advice for our new governor Maggie Hassan?
Yes – think about the future, and don’t worry about being compared with Governor Lynch.
